Kwun Tong Town Centre Project

Kwun Tong Town Center Project - The Master Layout Plans were submitted to the Town Planning Board

The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) submitted the master layout plans of the Kwun Tong Town Centre – Main Site and Yuet Wah Street Site to the Town Planning Board (TPB) on 29.8.2008. This represents a major stride in the implementation of the 5.35 hectares mega project.

Major design features of the project are the results of an extensive consultation with the community, which includes a modernistic design with landmark development, comprehensive community and commercial services as well as community-friendly features such as street and bazaar in traditional "kaifong-style" and a large civic square. The public open space has been enlarged by more than three times to 8,700m2. There will be a high green coverage ratio, close to 30% of the site area, densely planted with trees, shrubs, flowers and grass. It will be one of the greenest urban areas in Hong Kong.

The proposed design has a balanced mix of hotel, retail, Government, Institution or Community facilities, public transport interchange, residential and open space uses. There will be five residential buildings providing about 2,000 flats. The layout focuses on prevention of “wall effect'” with stepped building heights and careful tower disposition. It will also improve the surrounding air ventilation.

The project will be implemented in five development packages. It is estimated to take 12-year period to complete.

The TPB has published a notice on 12.9.2008, inviting public comments in the next three weeks on the master layout plans of the Kwun Tong Town Centre project (Application No. A/K14/576 for Main Site and A/K14/577 for Yuet Wah Street Site).
