HKIA and URA Jointly Call for Community Installations to Revitalise Urban Spaces and Weave the Community in Central & Western District

The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) and the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) today (2 July 2026) jointly announced the official launch of the “Call for Community Installations”, inviting HKIA members to submit design proposals for community installations in Central and Western District.

This collaborative campaign commemorates a significant milestone for both organisations this year, celebrating the HKIA’s 70th anniversary and the URA’s 25th anniversary.  Under the theme “Weave the Community”, the initiative manifests both parties’ shared vision and unwavering commitment to fostering a more vibrant, inclusive, and people-first urban environment in Hong Kong.

Echoing the HKIA’s 70th anniversary commemorative theme of “Into the Community”, the campaign actively encourages HKIA members to immerse themselves into the historic fabric of Central and Western District to conceive community installations for underutilised corners or overlooked public spaces.  These installations will serve not only as aesthetic, visual landmarks to beautify the built environment, but also as vital tools to reinforce the connection between people and places, thereby enhancing sense of belonging and community cohesion.  Furthermore, they can drive foot traffic and vitality to support local economy.  The initiative exemplifies the URA’s “3B” system for urban renewal — through the synergy among the enhanced “Built environment”, “local Bonding” and “Business environment”— to foster sustainable community development.

Interested participants are invited to submit their idea proposals starting today until 2 August 2026.  The Organising Committee will evaluate the submissions to shortlist entries to the next stage. Successful candidates entering Stage 2 will be required to submit a comprehensive implementation proposal, based upon their idea proposal submitted in Stage 1 for Jury Panel’s final adjudication.  The selected proposals are planned for on-site implementation towards the end of 2026.
