Property acquisition for two URA preservation cum revitalisation projects to start soon
The Land, Rehousing & Compensation Committee of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) has resolved today (Thursday) that eligible owner-occupiers of domestic properties affected by the two preservation cum revitalisation projects at Shanghai Street / Argyle Street and Prince Edward Road West / Yuen Ngai Street would be offered $8,010 and $9,391 per square foot of saleable floor area respectively. The URA will issue offer letters to owners by 31 March 2010. The two projects involve some 73 property interests and 20 of the buildings within the two sites are pre-war verandah-type shophouses of outstanding heritage value. URA proposes alternative implementation concept for conserving Wing Lee Street
The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) today (Tuesday) proposed an alternative implementation concept for conserving Wing Lee Street for Town Planning Board (TPB)'s reference, in addition to the conservation-led redevelopment plan for the Staunton Street/Wing Lee Street project announced by URA in November 2008. The Chairman of the URA, Mr Barry Cheung, outlined details of the alternative implementation concept at a media briefing this afternoon. Mr Cheung recalled that the Staunton Street/Wing Lee Street project was one of the 25 projects announced by the former Land Development Corporation in 1998. URA Photo Competition on Historical Buildings
Distinguished winners of a photographic competition featuring historical buildings in Central are awarded for their creativity and flair at a presentation ceremony today (Saturday). The competition is part of an education initiative of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) to enhance public awareness of the uniqueness and characters of historical buildings in the district through the cameras of the participants. Selected masterpieces of the competition are being exhibited at the refurbished corridor of the Central Oasis in Central for public viewing for three weeks. URA commences the Ma Tau Wai Road/Chun Tin Street project with special measures
The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) today (Wednesday) announced the commencement of a redevelopment project involving two rows of 50-year-old-plus tenement buildings at a site in To Kwa Wan where a block collapsed on 29 January 2010, as well as adoption of special measures for this special project in view of the unique circumstances, the residents' sub-standard living conditions and their psychological burden after the accident. Two URA projects: authorization by the Secretary for Development
The Secretary for Development (SDEV) has authorized the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) to proceed with the San Shan Road / Pau Chung Street project in Ma Tau Kok and the Shun Ning Road project in Sham Shui Po. The authorization for the two projects is given under section 24 (4) (a) of the Urban Renewal Authority Ordinance (URAO) and is published in the Gazette today (Friday). Both were implemented by way of a development project in accordance with section 26 of the URAO. The implementation notices of the San Shan Road/Pau Chung Street project and the Shun Ning Road project were published on the Gazette on 29 May 2009 and 26 June 2009 under section 23 of the URAO respectively. URA starts on-line and face-to-face surveys for the Central Oasis
The Secretary for Development, Mrs. Carrie Lam, and the Chairman of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA), Mr. Barry Cheung, today (Saturday) officiated at the launching ceremony of a three-week e-Poll to solicit public views for the Central Oasis revitalisation project of the Authority. Members of the public can express their views on the future use of the Central Oasis at a designated website (www.centraloasis.org.hk) starting today until 26 February 2010. In parallel, a survey firm, commissioned by the URA, will conduct a street poll at various locations in the vicinity of MTR stations throughout the territory during the same period. Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited wins URA’s development project at Lai Chi Kok Road / Kweilin Street and Yee Kuk Street
The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) today (Friday) announced that Grandwood Investments Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited, has won the contract for the joint development project at Lai Chi Kok Road / Kweilin Street and Yee Kuk Street in Sham Shui Po in a public tender exercise. The project comprises two adjacent sites at Lai Chi Kok Road / Kweilin Street and Yee Kuk Street of about 36,000 square feet. The URA's proposal is to redevelop the sites to provide about 390 residential units, including some 60 flats with elderly-friendly facilities. Besides, some 4,100 square feet of floor area for Non-Government Organisations specialising preferably in services for senior citizens, 50,000 square feet of commercial floor area and 6,200 square feet of public op

Tender closes for development of Lai Chi Kok Road / Kweilin Street and Yee Kuk Street Project
The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) today (Monday) announced that a total of eight tender offers have been received for the joint venture development of Lai Chi Kok Road / Kweilin Street and Yee Kuk Street Project in Sham Shui Po. A tender review panel will consider the tenders received and make recommendation to the URA Board for a decision in due course. Earlier, the URA received 15 submissions expressing an interest in the joint venture development of the project; all of them were invited to submit a tender for the development. Community Advisory Committee starts work on Central Oasis
The 16-member Central Oasis Community Advisory Committee (COCAC), set up to advise the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) on revitalising the Ex-Central Market as an urban oasis for Hong Kong people, held its first meeting today (Friday). Chaired by Professor David Lung, the COCAC comprises 15 other members from various backgrounds, including District Council members, professionals, academics and businessmen. All of them are invited to join the COCAC on their own personal capacity.
